Some are deciduous and some are conifers. Knowing you tree species is vital because you care instructions will vary according to this. Remember, they are delicate so one mistake in the care instructions and it could be curtains for your Bonsai.
A final piece of advice for the beginner is to start small. Best to start with one or two trees than a whole forest. trees are not exactly cheap so until you become familiar with how much care they need keep it simple.
